Sewing, thrifting and the like...

Anima Pyjamina

So the Anima Pants craze has descended on the house of moi. There is nothing like a bit of a sewing comp to get the sewing juices running hey folks? I went a little crazy and made a couple of wee pairs over the last week and a half. I only intended to make 1 pair, but then they extended the deadline and it was GAME ON!

The first: a pair of full-length pinstripe smarties with a little lace detailing on the pockets and cuffs, and a little ruching on the calf to give it that little extra je ne sais quoi, or some shite...

Pin-stripe strides my friends

A little lacy
They are a pretty easy make. I used a remnant of this cool silver/shiny ....don't get too close to a fire...woven pinstripe fabric, which i cut so the pins (technical speak people) run horizontal not vertical. There is bugger all stretch, but they fit all the same. The instructions are pretty clear and they turned out a-ok!

So anyways, that deadline thing, WELL when they extended it, i thought i might as well sew me some 3/4 length Anima's. I had this gorg pale blue and white polka dot in my stash and i thought what the heck. I was more than a little concerned they would look like i was wearing my pj's in public...not a look i strive for. So i oomphed them up (man i am on fire with these terms tonight!) with some navy denim for the pocket, waistband and cuff. But that's not all my friends, me never being content without a little shizaam, i added some vintage crochet lace i unearthed at my fav garage sale.

And this is how they turned out?

A total strut?!

Check out the bumps folks..err the wall, not mine..

Steady steady...

It's all in the detail

The obligatory arse view

So wotdyathink friends, would you hang with me wearing these or are they Anima-pyjanima's? Hmm?? Do tell?

Oh, and i also made the gold bolero, but that is a story for another day, yawn, night xx

First the worst...

So i am a gatherer from way back, i love gathering stuff, magpie like - teapots, vintage fabric (or just any fabric really), children, buttons, nanny craft (crochet lap blankets, pressed flower pictures etc) random crap, you name it, i collect it :). Nothing i like more than a good ol' garage sale, charity shop or flea market. I assure you, i gather like a woman possessed, head down, bum out, elbows out, ha!

Whereas my stitching life really began a year ago with a dress, a very special dress, my wedding dress no less! Eeep!

I had sewn a little prior to this, a few maternity clothes, a few kids clothes, a bag or two, but you know, nothing much, nothing decent, nothing i particularly like. So what did i decide to do, oh yeah, make me a wedding frock. Makes sense doesn't it? Actually it makes no sense, but i had the naivety of a beginner, i didn't know what the feck i was getting myself into, and that is a good thing. If i had known the pain it would have caused, i never would have started! As it turned out, i learnt shit loads, and i got a one of a kind, totally me dress at the end of it. It wasn't perfect, far from it, but I DID IT! Whoop! Its a vintage Butterick 3774 pattern, basically the dress on the left (different sleeves and a few other changes)

Evidence? oh yeah...

And a full length one, its not the best photo but it shows the whole dress...LOVE that train :)

Will write a post about my trials and tribulations another time perhaps...and do some catch up on what i have been sewing since my November nuptials - your mind will not be blown..i still need to gain some mad skillz folks!

In the mean time, i should say why i am joining the masses in writing a sewing blog?? I mean there are sooo many awesome blogs out there, and you know i am kinda behind the times with this gig!

So prior to beginning this little bloggette i became a professional sewing blog stalker, they may not ACTUALLY know me from a bar of soap but as many people do i like to think of the sewing glitterati: Heather, Andrea, Oona, Ginger, Lauren and the like as my gal pals, my sewing posse :p. Now i kinda wanna join these cool kids and be part of this AMAZING online sewing community...so folks pick me, pick me to be your new online sewing bestie...or just stalk me (sewists not weirdo's pretty please), as all the best people do ;)

Lastly, i wanna give a special shout out to the real life friends i made through stalking their blogs, my fellow Canberra-ites. The divinely awesome Kirsty, Amanda, Michelle, Myra and Siobhan...you girls rock...i love you dearly and look forward to many a sewing, drinking, eating, laughing sesh in the years to come! Yay!

And so it begins...
